About Shree Suvarna Temple

A sacred legacy of faith, unity and devotion since 1957

Our Sacred History

A timeline of faith, growth and devotion spanning over six decades

1957

The Beginning

Shree Suvarna Baba, a revered saint, established a small shrine at the current location in Panchkutir, Powai. This humble beginning marked the foundation of what would become one of the most unique temples in Mumbai.

1963

Temple Consecration

The temple was formally consecrated (Pran Pratishtha) with the installation of the golden Nag Devi idol around the Shiva Lingam. This sacred ceremony established the temple as a centre of worship and spiritual power.

1970s

Nine Goddesses

The temple expanded to include shrines for the 9 Goddesses (Navdurga), embodying the divine feminine energy. Each Goddess was given a dedicated space for worship, enriching the spiritual experience for devotees.

1980s

Growing Devotion

The temple complex expanded with additional shrines for Lord Hanuman, Shani Dev, and the Navagraha deities. Weekly Saturday gatherings for Shani Dev and Hanuman darshan became a major draw for devotees across Mumbai.

2000s

Modern Restoration

A major renovation transformed the temple with golden pillars, a new dome resembling the Shiva Lingam, and improved facilities for devotees. The restoration preserved the sacred essence while enhancing the architectural grandeur.

Present

Living Legacy

Managed by the Suvarna Memorial Trust, the temple serves thousands of devotees daily and continues Suvarna Baba's vision of a united, spiritually awakened community. The temple remains a beacon of harmony in Powai.

About Shree Suvarna Baba

Born in the early 1900s, Shree Suvarna Baba was a revered saint known for his extraordinary spiritual powers and healing abilities. He was believed to have a divine connection with Nag Devta (the Serpent God), which inspired the creation of the unique golden Nag Devi idol that graces the temple today.

Suvarna Baba's philosophy was rooted in the Vedic tradition: “Ekam Sat Vipra Bahudha Vadanti” — Truth is One, the wise call it by many names. He dedicated his life to the worship of Nag Devta and the preservation of Sanathana Dharma. People from every walk of life sought his blessings and guidance.

Though Suvarna Baba has passed on from this physical world, his legacy continues through the Suvarna Memorial Trust. His teachings of devotion, compassion, and spiritual discipline remain the guiding principles of the temple to this day.

Temple Architecture

A masterpiece blending traditional temple design with unique spiritual symbolism

Shiva Lingam Dome

The temple's dome is uniquely shaped to resemble a Shiva Lingam, symbolising Lord Shiva's omnipresence. This architectural marvel is visible from across the neighbourhood and serves as a spiritual landmark.

Golden Pillars

Majestic golden pillars adorn the temple entrance, welcoming devotees into the sacred space. The pillars are intricately designed with traditional motifs and reflect the temple's grandeur.

Central Courtyard

Multiple shrines are arranged around a central courtyard, with the Nag Devi shrine as the central sanctum. This layout allows devotees to visit each deity in a sacred circumambulation.

Marble & Brass

The temple features polished marble flooring that reflects the golden light from brass bells and ornate doorways. Every element has been carefully crafted to enhance the spiritual atmosphere.

Sacred Bells

Brass bells of various sizes hang at the entrance and throughout the temple. Their resonating sound is believed to ward off negative energies and invoke divine blessings.

Ornate Doorways

Each shrine features intricately carved doorways depicting scenes from mythology, floral patterns, and sacred symbols. The craftsmanship honours centuries of Indian temple-building tradition.
